The Daily Mail has obtained figures revealing that British airlines are amongst the worst in all of Europe when it comes to losing luggage.
Bmi British Midland loses an astonishing 1 in 58 bags, while British Airways fares slightly better at 1 in 64. Since November 2008, British Airways has lost over 203,000 bags.
What do the airlines have to say about their poor performance? Their answers were typical British—all finger-pointing and no accountability.
A bmi spokesperson said: "Events beyond our control can also have a knock-on effect on the movement of connecting passengers and baggage, most notably poor weather, as experienced across Europe at the start of 2009."
Apparently rain confuses luggage handlers and they can't tell one plane from another. Yeah, that sounds likely.
British Airways simply said: "Our baggage figures are improving."
It's true that British Airways' numbers are an improvement—they lost 1 in 37 bags in the last quarter of 2007—but that's kind of like going from an F to a D-, isn't it? It's still completely unacceptable.
If a British airline has lost your luggage and they have neither gotten it back to you nor given you a check for it, contact us, we will add it to the reparations total.
