Have you followed the Arcadia link ?
This leads to a further six other wierd sites.

Very professional looking but ...........pointless ?
May be the start of an advertising campaign

Re: British Reparations
OMG that is a new one. Take no notice it is one of Arcadia's games. They are made to shock and provoke. they are just adverts and games.
Part of pop culture.

Re: British Reparations
Quote from the site Tel. I agree with Bruv though it looks like a 'Brass Eye' type piss-take.

Re: British Reparations
it is a major piss take, they are yanks their mother tongue is bastardised English.
Anything that looked believable in another language would be problematic for them.

They do it to shock, like a child standing in front of grandparents saying swear words it has learned.
Best reaction is no reaction.

Re: British Reparations
Are you kidding me, Poppy? The very first chapter of The Evil Empire is called THEY THINK THEY OWN THE BRITISH LANGUAGE. Where do you think English came from? It couldn't possibly be from Germany and Mesopotamia, could it? That would mean, gasp!, that English is "bastardised" German. BLASPHEMY! Might I suggest learning a bit of real history before rehashing the lies you learned in school.

Typical Brits. Make a mess and then point fingers, guns, and bombs when it comes time to clean it up.

Re: British Reparations
Bloody morons, I hope they want britain to take back all the infrastructure, parliamentary democracy, the english language, world trade , science and technology etc that we gave them in the colonial years. I spent my childhood in a former british colony and its inescapable the positives that came from the british expansion throughout the colonial years. hey you could even through in all those nasty ball games like cricket, football and golf if you wanted.

Bruv
Re: British Reparations
Nick old boy....it is wind up....the site is trying to cause offence...the cause is invalid.
But in answer, the infrastructure built by Britian for British business concerns ? Parliamentary Democracy that is alien to them and is failing many of them ? the English language that they were forced to use as if their own wasn't good enough ?
We gave science and technology etc ? Do you mean disseminated ? Or perhaps shared ? Knowledge cant be given....can it ?

Have you ever considered the positives were offset by negatives that linger on ?

Re: British Reparations
Regardless of whether this whole thing is fake or not, I think they bring up some good points. A lot of England's technological advancements came at great costs. You all seem to forget that. I think they're asking for something like $58 trillion in reparations. That number's a bit ridiculous, but I find it strange that England's gotten away with so much without paying a single cent.

Re: British Reparations
Actually, ENGLISH is germanic in syntax, but also contains latin, french, greek, even mesopotanian words, as well as more slang than in any other known language. Welsh, and Scottish Gaelic are Celtic languages that are part of the group of languages decribed in general terms as Germanic. I don't know what you mean by 'they think they own the British langage' as there's no such thing.

I haven't got a fucking clue what the Yanks speak.

The Oxford English Dictionary (AKA The definitive record of the English language) would like to have a word with you.

I agree with you, Churchill, it's silly to take ownership of a language. Languages are all influenced by other tongues, and none is truly unique. We Americans, and apparently you, all know this. The problem is, your fellow Britons, such as the ostentatious fools behind the OED, don't.

Anyway, it's good to see that you're on my side, Churchill.

Sweetpea, I think "thickos" is what you meant to say. Apostrophes are used for contractions and possessives; not plurals. Just pointing that out to you because if you want to point out someone's intellectual inferiority, proper grammar makes your case a whole lot more credible.
