British celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has come under fire from animal welfare groups after saying that giraffe steaks are "the height of fine dining." The adventurous cook has a penchant for eating strange meats, having gone on expeditions to find the tastiest crocodile and fruit bat dishes in Africa.
Animal rights group Viva! called Fearnley-Whittingstall "irresponsible" for eating "an animal that a lot of people love and see in the wild in Africa." They added, "food should not be a fashion, a fad or a competition. Leave giraffe and other wild animals off the menu."
If this takes off, it's only a matter of time before atrocities such as giraffe sausage, giraffe and chips, and giraffe blood pudding start popping up all over pubs. Giraffe could be the biggest thing to happen to English cuisine since the discarded pig trimming.
