Birmingham Women Collapse From Cold Waiting In Line For Hot Sales

12.28.2007

Philadelphia, PA – December 27, 2007

Two women were victimized by hypothermia early this morning while waiting inline for a 50% off sale in front of a Next store in Birmingham, England. Similar to America’s post-Thanksgiving Black Friday, the days following Christmas are popular shopping days in Britain, with retailers slashing prices storewide in an effort to reduce holiday surpluses. Many chains opened their doors as early as 5 am and customers began queuing much earlier in the morning.

Although it was not immediately clear why the women had gotten so cold, an ambulance service spokesperson made an impassioned plea to the shopping public saying, “If you are planning to attend and queue in the future, please ensure you wear suitable clothing to keep warm.” Unfortunately for England, most stores have refused to offer discounts on common sense, citing wide demand and short supply as reason enough to keep prices on the scarce commodity high.
