It’s Called American Express for a Reason

In scenes reminiscent of Depression-era America last week, customers mobbed Northern Rock banks across England amidst fears of the institution’s instability. A major financial crisis was averted as Alistair Darling, Chancellor of the Exchequer stepped in and propped up the bank with government resources, but Britons still remain on edge in light of a looming recession. Two decades of pervasive borrow-and-spend philosophy have placed the English in a precarious state of debt. At 2.75 trillion dollars in consumer debt, England boasts the highest ratio of debt to personal income amongst industrialized nations.
Here at the ICBR we have one thing to say: if you don’t have the money, don’t spend it. Seriously guys what the heck is wrong with all of you? Debt is for losers, or recent med school graduates. Actually, we don’t really care if you completely outlive your means; as long as you can come up with the 32 trillion dollars you owe all of us we’ll be happy. Just tack that 2.75 trillion onto what you already owe us and you can have the highest debt to personal income ratio in the entire world. At least you’ll be number one at something.
