Letter To The ICBR: Re: To The Author

06.18.2007

Hello,
I read your book today, and I found it humorous to how many mistakes you seem to have made. Now I am a Brit/Iraqi, so I know very well about the 'Evil Empire', but I resent the facts you have presented, firstly most are either wrong or opinion. For example, you mention how the British invented concentration camps during the 2nd Boer War, which i am afraid is incorrect.
It is a spanish invention- reconcentrados, were used in Cuba in urban areas in 1896, but that is only one of the many blunders that infect your book. Secondly, I have noticed a personal hatred for the british that has elements of american patriotism. Im sorry to point this out but whatever you think you are, you are British, so I don't believe you have the right to refer to us as 'them'.
Thirdly, I resent how you portray the British as being ruled by the Queen. Which is nothing less than ignorant. She is only head of state de facto, and has no powers ever since the making of the Constitutional Monarchy during Charles II, 147 years before american democracy. Also you mention Cecil Roberts as being a racist. Well what is one man weighed against an entire
organization of racists, the american KKK, which is still alive today. You even had the southern half of your country go to war with the north to stop emancipation. Which reminds me, The British Empire, did not support the confederacy, because Britain (and France) had long banned slavery, and wasn't about to support it again, this only came around because of the Union's boarding of a British vessel. And may I remind you that the
Confederacy is American!

Finally, I challenge your viewpoint that Britain is the cause of all the problems such as Israel etc. Indeed, Britain did hand over the mandate of Palestine, and I cannot condone that, however, it is american support that has kept this fight alive.

Of course, the british have been wrong on many occasions, but this was centuries ago, the US is still committing atrocities. You don't mention although the US is one of the richest nations on earth, it doesn't even have an NHS unlike Britain, which was the first, or how Britain continued WWII, which was won by the Soviet Union, not the United States, which you wrongly flaunt in movies. How that is a thorn in your metorphorical side, that evil
communism saved the world. The United States is the most hated nation on the Earth, and after reading this book, its no suprise.

In the words of my dad;

'I have never seen such a destructive people as the americans, at least the British built roads and universities. Empires go from obscurity to civilization to barbarity, America seems to have missed the middle one...'

Thanks
Fareed Issa
