Letter To The ICBR: Re: Riduculous

06.12.2007

I would like to begin by pointing out that I am, unlike a large proportion of Americans, perfectly literate, and therefore able to express myself without resorting to swearing, but in this particular instance I really can't sum up my feelings better than by telling you to fuck off. And when you get there, you can fuck off again.

It amazes me that anyone considering themselves a historian can write such a ridiculously biased account of events simply because he doesn't like a country. I'd be the first to admit that Great Britain has had some moments in history that we aren't proud of, but there is no country that doesn't - Britain, having
an Empire, simply had a chance to have more of them.

You take umbridge at our record in war, however, if you look at recent history, you will notice that the USA has a far worse record - take Vetnam as an example. As for your claim that Osama Bin Laden is trying to avenge our empire, he is not trying to avenge anything, he is merely a terrorist. However, if pressed for an excuse, I'm sure he'd talk about American imperialism in the Gulf States (I know Britain is there too, but this is very much against the will of the people) and the Existence of Israel.

You go on to point out that we invented the machine gun, making the world a worse place, but I would like to point out 3 things here: 1) war was not particularly pleasant beforehand 2) Hiram Maxim was, in fact, an American 3) this is somewhat rich coming from the country that brought us the nuclear bomb.

And finally your point on having a monarchy - it's not that we think that they are better people than us, it's just that the country needs a figurehead, and we would much rather that than the alternative. Why would we want a president -
someone who actually wants the job is the person who definately should not have it.

I would apprecaiate your thoughts on this matter.
