Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King's horses, And all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again...or could they?
According to the BBC, all the King's men could, in fact, restore Humpty to his previous glory. On a program called Something Special, the BBC changed the words to the beloved nursery rhyme to make them more politically correct, and people are none too pleased with the amendment.
"This is an unnecessary and outrageous piece of political correctness directed at young children," said John Midgley of the Campaign Against Political Correctness.
Naturally, the BBC denies all charges and claims that they made the change because they felt like being creative.
"We play nursery rhymes with their original lyrics all the time and the small change to Humpty Dumpty was done for no other reason than being creative and entertaining," said a BBC spokesperson.
That same "creativity" was also used to transform Little Miss Muffet into an arachnophile instead of an arachnophobe.
Queen Victoria may not be sitting on the throne any longer, but her spirit sure is.
