Amid the economic crisis, England has had to make a heap of cutbacks. Children have been hit hard by these cutbacks as school budgets have been slashed, programs cut, and teachers fired. So severe have the youth been hit by the economy, that Britons have been left asking, "Won't somebody please think of the children?"
The Thanet District Council has answered the desperate please with a £30,000 "YES! We Will!" Organizers at the council have put together a £30,000 burlesque show that promises to "thrill, titillate and astound" audiences. The council hopes that The Sassy Seaside Show, hosted by Miss Behave, will help raise morale in Margate, Kent. The show will feature male burlesque, international sex symbols, roller-skating divas, and burlesque dance classes.
Arts development officer Heather Sawney said: "It will be down to pants and you won't see any nipple. We want it to be fun and hark back to those saucy seaside postcards of the 1950s."
Tory councilor Shirley Tomlinson, the authority's tourism chief, is thrilled with the festival: "The idea behind this festival is wonderful and it's great to see Margate's illustrious history as a superb seaside destination being showcased in this way."
Sure sounds like wholesome fun for parents and children alike.
