LA To Beckham: Go Home, Fraud

07.20.2009 - David Beckham in ugly confrontation with angry fans of his own team on home return for LA Galaxy

LA To Beckham: Go Home, Fraud

After five months in Italy, David Beckham made his return to the LA Galaxy. Beckham, who's spent his time in LA complaining about how poor American soccer is, was jeered and heckled as he took the field.

Banners hung around the stadium had messages like, "Go Home Fraud," and "23: Repent." A loud chorus of boos filled the stands every time Beckham touched the ball. Beckham, a veteran of 16 years in professional soccer, went ballistic during halftime. As both teams left the field, he charged the stands, in the section where the heckling was most concentrated, and challenged an especially vocal fan to fight him. The fans were shocked, claiming that their booing was nothing but friendly trash talk.

"We boo a lot of players - they don't come out and challenge our guys. We're just here as fans. A security guy got our guy and security held him back. We were a little upset. He betrayed our team but don't come calling out one of our fans, that doesn't happen," said Ricardo Vigil, who was in attendance.

Beckham, ever the class act, claims that he was just trying to shake the guy's hand. Right, a guy calls you a scumbag and tells you to go home, and you walk over to him to greet him and tell him you value his opinion. You didn't lose your cool because some jerk in the stands humiliated you in front of your wife, kids, and your boyfriend, Tom Cruise.
